How to stay fit and healthy during your all-inclusive cruise
While, for many people, the start of a New Year is a great chance to kick start a new set of fitness goals – the common notion is that cruising offers a contrasting lifestyle. Fantastic food appears to be readily available all throughout the day and is all too easy to indulge during your holiday. There are freshly-baked cakes, succulent meats, plenty of junk food and many more appetising dishes available at the buffet. The message is clear from the offset – you have worked hard to earn your holiday and you deserve the opportunity step back and enjoy the finer things in life.
Fear not, though, as although there is a wide array of food available it is possible to say fight back – adhering to your fitness goals in the process and still having an amazing time on board. Don’t believe us? Our blog this week outlines a range of hints and tips that will point you in the right direction of staying healthy during your cruise holiday.
Thanks to a partnership with the highly-acclaimed chef, Paco Roncero, you can enjoy a range of succulent and freshly prepared dishes throughout the duration of your cruise. If you opt to steer away from the buffet and instead head to the a-la-carte restaurant on board any of the four ships, you will discover menu filled with fresh dishes, with new additions on a daily basis.
You can opt for one of a number of healthy dishes with Spanish flair including: cod poached in olive oil with a light sauce of leeks and potato; chicken stuffed with vegetables and wild mushrooms, served with a light apple cream; and Spanish style ratatouille with poached eggs. There is also a fruit salad option available for dessert, as well as a dedicated range of vegetarian options of offer. Furthermore, the kitchen will also prepare a range of gluten and lactose-free dishes upon prior request.
An all-inclusive drinks package makes it all too easy to drink endless amounts of sugary-based alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages. While no one would ever suggest avoiding these drinks all-together, you can cut back thanks to the range of healthier alternative options available. This includes a wide range of fruit and herbal teas, as well as a selection of fresh fruit juices including orange, pineapple, peach, mango, apple and tomato. All of this, along with the likes of diet coke and tonic water are available throughout the day and will keep you hydrated on top deck.
In many ways, a ship can be viewed as more of a floating home away from home and less as a resort. While there are many unique features to distinguish itself, there are also plenty of mod coms available on board the ship that will enable you to feel at home during your time on board. Features that you will find on each of the Pullmantur ships are the swimming pools on the top deck and the on board gym, which is fully-equipped with treadmills, exercise bikes, muscle-workout apparatus, cross trainers and much more.
Monarch and Sovereign are two of the larger vessels of the fleet and are therefore able to offer a wider range of amenities. Both ships are capable of accommodating more than 2,700 passengers at any one time and are therefore better equipped for families. There are a number of features that have been added with children in mind, but there is no reason why you can’t join in on the fun. Climbing walls, basketball courts and ping pong tables are all available on board these two vessels along with a decent jogging track.
Throughout the January and February, Pullmantur is operating a range of itineraries in the Caribbean that enable you to soak up the sun during the winter months. There are also itineraries available much closer to home in the Canary Islands, providing an opportunity to visit islands including Tenerife, Gran Canaria, La Palma, Lanzarote and Fuerteventura. Additionally, as of March 2018, you will also be able to enjoy all-inclusive cruising in the Mediterranean.
