Sovereign ready to sail following €20million revamp
Each of the four Pullmantur Cruises vessels provides a range of contemporary amenities that will make your holiday complete. From spacious lounges and expansive pool decks, to children’s clubs, video arcades and climbing walls, you and your family will never run out of things to do on board a Pullmantur cruise. Every now and then, however, the ships require extensive revamps to ensure they remain fresh, clean and modern.
Last month was the turn of Sovereign, which entered dry-dock at the Navantia Shipyard in Cadiz, Spain. Here, she would remain for three weeks while more than 1,000 workers from 42 different companies fulfil necessary improvements and duties on board. The ship has been in operation for nearly 30 years and was built specifically for Royal Caribbean in 1988. With the 30th anniversary looming, there is no better time to ensure she is spic and span for her celebratory year. She was transferred from Royal Caribbean to Pullmantur in 2008 which, therefore, means that she will also be celebrating her 10th anniversary with the Spanish line in 2018.
Whilst hidden away in dry-dock, the on board restaurants and bars received makeovers – with new carpets, upholstery and furniture being installed. To be specific: more than 18,000Sq metres of carpet was replaced, 400 metres of piping was renewed, 1,700 chairs throughout the ship were reupholstered, 1,700sq metres of tiles were laid, and a total of 1,500kg of cement used.
In total, the cost of all of this work came to in excess of €20million and it is hoped that the new aesthetic and technological elements installed will improve the overall on board experience. The revitalised ship departed Navantia shipyard earlier last week and is currently sailing towards Brazil, where she will be positioned throughout the winter season.
In March 2018, she will return to the Mediterranean and operate seven-night ‘5 Wonders of the Mediterranean’ roundtrip itineraries – taking passengers to a range of beautiful destinations including Barcelona, Naples, Rome, Livorno, Villefrance and Sete. The first of these sailings will depart out of Barcelona on the 26th March 2018, with opportunities available throughout the spring, summer and autumn seasons. She will embark her last Mediterranean sailing for the year on 12th November 2018.
Throughout 2018, Sovereign will be joined in the Mediterranean by Horizon, which will operate seven-night sailings in the Balkans and to the Greek Islands.
Wherever you decide to travel, you will be able to enjoy an all-inclusive package that is available across the entire fleet all-year-round. This means that all meals, drinks, on board entertainment, port taxes and much more is included in the price of your fare.
