Zenith to take passengers to Madeira this winter

Funchal

It may seem a long way off at the moment, but winter is just around the corner and there is no better time to start considering your next cruising escape. Throughout the colder months, Zenith has been known for operating sailings to the Canary Islands and providing a spot of relief from the harsh winter temperatures. The good news is that these itineraries are set to continue throughout the winter season of 2018/19, taking passengers to familiar destinations including Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Palma and Lanzarote, as well as a new addition.

Not only will guests on these sailings be able to visit the Canary Islands, but there will also be an opportunity to travel to the Madeiran capital of Funchal. This beautiful city is home to abundance of beautiful gardens and parks consisting of vibrantly coloured flowers that offer a perfect place to relax. Alternatively, if you are looking for a slice of culture and a sport of retail therapy, you may enjoy the authenticity of the market, where local vendors sell an abundant range of fresh fruits, vegetables and fish.

There are also many historically significant buildings to be discovered including the Santa Clara Convent (which dates back to the 15th century), the Sao Lourenco Palace, and the 15th century Cathedral - which features a ceiling made of locally-sourced wood. If you are looking for a whistle-stop tour that incorporates a series of the city’s sights; one of the best ways to travel is via the Funchal Cable Car.

These sailings have proven immensely popular over the last two years and Pullmantur is hoping to accommodate up to 30,000 guests throughout the winter season of 2018/19. In addition to the Canary Islands and Madeira, these sailings will also offer the chance to travel to travel to the Moroccan port of Agadir – a modern city known for its collection of expansive sandy beaches that each offer an ideal location in which to soak up the Mediterranean sun.

President and CEO for Pullmantur Cruises, Richard J. Vogel, said: “this will be the third consecutive year we will be operating in the Canary Islands, a sign of our commitment to this destination of great beauty, appeal and distinctive charm. It is the ideal choice for a winter break, being a short distance away and due to its fantastic climate.” He added: “we decided to include Madeira on this route because we wish to offer our passengers the opportunity to visit this increasingly popular destination. In fact, last year, the island welcomed a record number of tourists.”

In addition to the Canary Islands sailings available this winter, Pullmantur Cruises will also be operating sailings within the Caribbean aboard Monarch.
